Why is my cat sneezing, has green boogers, and not eating much?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 months and 15 days old | 8 lbs

My cat Colby Jack has been sneezing. I looked in his nose today and saw boogers. Both green and black. He also seems a little less active, not letacrgic and his 3rd eyelid is showing a little bit. He's drinking water and eating but, not eating as much as he used too. He also seems to have a small sore on his lip. He won't let me take a picture of it

Sounds like Colby Jack could have an upper respiratory infection. Upper respiratory infections are most often caused by viruses, but occasionally secondary bacterial infections can develop so if he continues to have green discharge from his nose I would recommend seeing a veterinarian who may prescribe antibiotics. It is also common for the respiratory viruses to affect the eyes and cause conjunctivitis so watch for redness of the eyes or green/yellow discharge. The sore on his lip could potentially be related as well if it is at the lip junction but if it is on an area with hair it is probably unrelated.
