My adopted cat has a short tail. Is it normal or from past abuse?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 7 lbs

I adopted this beautiful calico cat at a shelter. I noticed her tail was smaller to the average cat and I was really concerned because maybe she was abused nd has oart of her tail cut off

Moly is adorable! Her tail does appear slightly shorter than average and this could have simply been the way that she was born, or related to other trauma. Some kittens experience tail trauma at birth if the umbilical cord is wrapped around the tail, causing part of it to fall off. Other cats can experience broken tails or other injuries that require amputation. Unfortunately, there is no way of determining the cause of Moly's tail condition at this point in time, but I think she's a cutie just the way she is! :-)
