This is most likely a case of puppy pyoderma, a condition extremely common to Pit bull terriers and the breeds alike. In many cases, medication is required to help clear it up in the form of an antibiotic and something to help with any itchiness that is occurring. Sometimes, an e-collar is also needed to make sure the dog is not causing any further damage through licking and self-inflicted trauma. You can opt to just try the collar first and see if the condition is self-limiting, but the majority of these cases do require some sort of medication in my experience. Hope this helps and that Luke feels better real soon!
