Pomeranian scratching uncontrollably, jumping, no fleas. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs

My pomeranian jumps like she is being bit by something. She has been scratching out of control. I have shaved her down and used flea shampoo. We have found no fleas or any ticks on her. I have two other pomeranians and a cat who are not having any problems. Her skin is not dry and we make their food with chicken, vegetables and rice. What could be the problem?

Hello These signs could indicate pain (sometimes a herniated disc and/or high neck pain can manifest as scratching) as well as a skin infection, ringworm and mites like Demodex. Allergic dermatitis (the top three causes are fleas, environmental triggers and food) can also cause this type of itching. As you have already done the bathing and checking her over for fleas I recommend Sheba see her veterinarian for an exam to pinpoint her itching cause and discuss further treatment options
