Why does my dog have stinky farts and a bald spot, should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 80 lbs

I have an 80 lb male pitbull/boxer.. He has been farting really stinky for a few weeks, and I didn't think anything of it, until I read online that it could be bad.. He also has a small bald spot.. At first I figured he had a tick, because we live in Tennessee and my human daughter has had many this year, but there's no tick.. He won't sit still long enough for me to get a picture, and when he sleeps, he sleeps to where I still can't get a picture.. He doesn't seem to be in pain or anything..

Hello. I am sorry that Shadow is having these issues. Farting and fowl smelling farts can be a sign of and upset stomach. This could be due to food allergies, a poor diet, or gastritis. This can also be a sign of more serious conditions like irritable bowel disease or exocrine pancreatitic insufficiency. The bald spot could be due to many causes including parasites (ticks, fleas, etc), or could be a bit of an infection, or ring-worm. I would suggest a visit to your vet to work up these issues. They will likely start with a fecal test to check for worms or other aspects, and may want to do some blood tests. They can also do some checks on the bald spot to see if parasites are present. Good luck with Shadow!
