My puppy has separation anxiety and kennel issues. Is a playpen good?

My 3 month old pup seems to have separation anxiety. My boyfriend and I both work during the day, one of us coming home at lunch to walk her. During the time we are not at the house we put her in a kennel. She barks constantly and has accidents in her kennel. I wanted to get her a gated off play-pen that i could leave her in while we are at work. I figured it is more room to let her roam around a bit and I can put her favorite bed/ toys for comfort. Is this a bad or good idea for a young puppy? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 months and 7 days old | 12 lbs
