My senior dog has Ehrlichiosis but no symptoms. Should I retest?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 15 years and 1 month old | 16 lbs

Our 15 year old Jack Russell's 4-in-1 blood test came back that she had been bitten either by a tick or flea and was showing minimal levels of Ehrlichiosis. Vet wants to perform another blood draw to send to a University to see if her immunize system fought it off, another $80 and office visit.. She is showing no signs or symptoms of the disease. What would you suggest?

Erhlicha can be a tricky disease in that it can remain dormant in a dog and then suddenly cause issues like significant anemia. The safest route is to pursue the additional tests to see if Lola has an active infection.
