My 5-week-old kitten's eye is matted shut. Is Neosporin safe?

I have a 5 week old kitten.i came home to find her eye matted shut. I was told to put Neosporin in it.i just want to make sure this is safe

I wouldn't advise the neosporin without further exam. This is because neosporin ointment can cause further irritation if the cornea has an injury. Bella should be seen by a veterinarian to make sure the eye itself is ok as well as make sure she isn't developing an upper respiratory tract infection as those can begin with eye discharge.
