My dog has a mouth bump for months. Is it normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 55 lbs

He's had this smallish ulcer inside his mouth since he was about 4 months old. He doesn't mind if I touch it and he eats perfectly fine. When i told the vet it was brushed off but I'm still concerned because it's been there so long! This is the best picture I could get so I tried to draw the circle around it so it's at least sort of visible.

Unfortunately this picture is just too blurry to speculate on what this is. However it is in the general vicinity of where the dogs anatomical incisive papilla is located. The incisive papilla is abnormal anatomical finding that is sort of bumpy (not ulcerated as you described) and aids the dog in smell. Here is a link to one in another dog http://www.dailydogdiscoveries.com/mysterious-bump-in-the-dogs-mouth/ If this is not similar to what you are seeing then it's best to get a second opinion from another vet who can look at this area in person. Best wishes.

Hello The photo is pretty blurry so I'm not sure I can appreciate how deep this lesion is and it's overall size. If it hasn't gotten larger, is not interfering with eating/drinking, and there's no odor/discharge it could be a normal variation for your dog. However if anything about the site changes I recommend further examination and likely tests on the area.
