My cat grooms excessively and has frequent hairballs. What can I do?

I have a question about my boy Booger. He is about 8 years old and is an indoor only cat with his 3 brothers. Booger always is grooming himself, his brothers, or even us. He doesnt seem to be missing fur but he coughs up hairballs often. Any idea why he does this?

It is completely normal behavior for a cat to groom himself and/or other cats. It becomes abnormal if there seems to be areas of hair loss, which it sounds like is not a problem with Booger. Since Booger does seem to groom a lot it may be helpful to have him on a food with a special hairball formula and/or a supplement like laxatone to keep hair balls from causing blockages.
