Why does my cat drink toilet water? Is it safe? How do I stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

We got our cat one month ago, everything is fine but after awhile he started to drink water out of the toilet bowl, he still drink his " assigned " water . I am just wondering will it be harmful to him, or how do I stop this behavior. We change his water everyday.

That won't be harmful..my cat has been doing it for many years (!!) and there is no problem with it as long as the water is clear.. The only way would be to limit the access to the bathroom, but other than that is completely normal for cats to drink from different sources of water.
