Why did my cat attack during an argument? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

My boyfriend and I were fighting this morning and all of a sudden he came between us and started almost howling my boyfriend went to put him and he attacked him. Left holes in his arm and made him bleed badly. We left him alone for more than 7 hours and he hissed at us both and was meowing excessively. He is the sweetest cat I've ever had and has never done anything like this. What should I do?

Your cat was probably being very protective of you because he felt that you were being threatened. This can be a normal response for a pet that is very attached to a specific person. If he exhibits this behavior again you should remove Kitty from the situation to protect you and to teach him that his behavior is not acceptable. If Kitty starts showing more aggressive tendencies more frequentlt you may want to consult your vet for specific training advice and/or medication to help him calm down.
