My ferret broke a nail. Is it safe to clip or should I wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

hello, I noticed when I took my ferret out today that her back nail was broken, it had dried blood around it, she seems to be tolerant of the pain and showing no signs of discomfort, in scared to clip it off due to hurting her or making it worse, should I wait it out an let it take its course or? Thank you!

I would wait a couple of days before clipping Bailey's broken nail so that hopefully there will be no additional bleeding. If Bailey starts to act painful, begins limping, or stops wanting to eat then I would recommend bringing him to see you vet so you can ensure there is no infection going on.
