My puppy has a flat worm coming out of his butt. Is it a tapeworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 9 days old | 10 lbs

My 8 month old puppy likes to nibble on grass and noticed a flat looking worm coming out of his butt, then later not there...haven't really seen anything in his poop yet. Not sure what worm it could be but he just had his 3rd round of shots with the rabies in it. Was told to get donecit I believe is the name for a tapeworm

What you are describing does sound like a tapeworm segment - these are usually short, flat, and wiggly. You're correct that Droncit would be an effective dewormer for this problem - this is a prescription-only medication in most states, so you will need to get this from your vet.
