My dog has dry, peeling scabs with pink skin underneath. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 40 lbs

I've noticed these spots on my dog appeared in the past week or two and am just concerned as to what they are. She is not having any other symptoms.. They feel like dry scabs are some started to peel already. It's just pink underneath, looks sort of like a scar.

That sign could be related to a superficial skin infection (bacterial or yeast). Usually a medicated antibacterial shampoo preparation is enough to sort out the problem. Malaseb shampoo could be a good option in her case. I would recommend to have it prescribed from your local veterinarian, following a check up to confirm clinical suspicion.
