Why does my dog have large, open, leaking, and growing lumps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 63 lbs

I have a 7 year pit bull boxer mix and she has these large lumps all over her body, some of them are open and leaking. Most importantly she has a very large one on her genitals and it seems to have a whole in it and continously getting bigger.

Poor Honey! Possible causes of these lesions could be related to a skin infection, benign or malignant masses (such as mast cell tumors), among others. The lesion near her hind end could be an abscessed anal gland, but I can't quite determine from the picture if the ulcerative lesion is next to her anus. Regardless of the cause, Honey needs to be examined by a vet and will need diagnostic testing to get to the bottom of this issue. If she is itchy, be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on her until you can take her to the vet to prevent further skin damage. I hope that all goes well!

Hello. So sorry that Honey is having this problem. She definitely needs to be seen by a vet. These look like cancerous tumors that need to be checked/biopsied. I can't really tell by the photos but I think one is on the mammary gland (teat)? If so, this could be an adenocarcinoma (or adenoma) - which may be cured with surgery. Although, it is really difficult for me to tell the extent of the tumors from the photos. Again, I'm sorry Honey has these tumors but please take her in for an exam. That way you can get a better understanding of what is going on and how to treat her. I hope this helps. Dr. Amber
