My hand-fed kitten's mouth is open and sticky. Is this an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat had kittens 3 days ago and I've had to hand feed one she rejected. A little over a few hours ago it opened its mouth and won't close it and the inside seems sticky

If she keeps he mouth opened this is probably because of severe respiratory distress, this is common with kittens that are hand fed because of aspiration pneumonia (milk is aspirated into the lungs). this is usually a very severe condition, you will need to take the kitten to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated.
