My dog ate an onion piece with seasoning and stevia. Is she okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old

My 21 pound female corgi got a piece of onion about the size of a dime that had red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, and trivia (stevia) sweetener. I'm just wondering if I need to worry or rush her to the vet?

Nala is such a cutie! I love Corgis - such fun dogs, with lots of personality :) This amount of onion should not pose any serious toxicity issues for Nala. The toxic dose for onions is about 5 grams per kg of body weight. If Nala is about 21 pounds, this means that she is around 10 kg. 5 grams is equivalent to a teaspoon, so she would need to eat around 10 teaspoons of onion to cause toxicity issues - so, much more than the tiny amount she actually ingested. None of the other ingredients you mentioned (red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, and stevia) are considered to be toxic to dogs, so I would not expect her to have any problems related to this at all.
