Why does my cat have blisters around eyes/ears after thyroid surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 14 years and 4 months old

I am looking after someone else's cat who has suddenly come up with weeping hive type blisters around his eyes and behind his ears- note he has recently had his thyroid gland removed

These spots on Tiko look like they are sites of infection, either a bacterial infection or a fungal infection like ringworm. The spots are probably open and oozing because Tiko is itching them. Based on the photos you provided, his age and recent history of surgery, I would recommend taking Tiko to the vet to be checked out. Tiko may be slightly immunocompromised (ie have a weakened immune system) because of his recent surgery which makes it more likely that he will need medication to help clear up the problem.
