Bullet is a very handsome guy! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. There are a number of things that could cause an increased appetite along with mucus in the stool and pooping more than normal - some common possibilities would include a food allergy or intolerance to something in his diet, intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, or a systemic illness like hyperthyroidism or diabetes. If this problem just started and he is acting normal otherwise, you could try feeding a bland diet of plain boiled chicken for the next few days to see if this helps his stool return to normal. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if the problem has been doing on for several days now already, I would definitely recommend taking him to the vet for an exam. He/she can do a fecal exam and blood work to help diagnose the problem and see what needs to be done to treat it.

I'm sorry that Leo is having this problem. If Leo is having some mild constipation, it is common that we will see a small amount of mucous come out when he does pass stool. This is due to some irritation of the colon and is normal with mild constipation. However, the goal is to resolve the mild constipation so he does not continue to have this problem. I am attaching a link to a handout with more information about constipation below. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=634 There are a number of treatment options that you can try including a diet change or adding some additional fiber to his diet which may help him pass stool normally, so I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about those options. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
