My dog has diarrhea after amoxicillin. Is it normal? What about grass?

Went to the vet to get an xray on my 1 yr old Shi tzu/poodle mix because she ate a rib bone. I wanted to know if she had anymore bones in her stomach. They found no bones but her small intestine was inflamed. She had loose stool but not diarrhea. They gave her an iv pack, diahrrea meds and nausea meds, along with amoxicillin. She now has fill blown diarrhea. Is this normal? Do I stop her from eating grass?

Hi there. So sorry Roxie is having this issue. Yes, it can be normal for them to break with full blown diarrhea despite the meds especially if the medications were just started. I can't tell when the medications were started based on your post but they do take a day or two to start working. I would only be worried if she starts vomiting on top of the diarrhea. Unfortunately there is no way to stop her from eating grass except physically removing her from that area when she starts doing that. It sounds like her stomach is upset - could be from the amoxicillin. Be sure to give that with food to avoid stomach upset. Plain white bread would be good to give her to soak up some of the stomach acid. If her symptoms continue to worsen be sure to call your vet back and let them know. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
