My dog ate a hosta plant. How long until she shows symptoms?

Hi, my dog ate the tip of a hosta plant this morning, how long will it take to see if she will get sick? Thank you! Joyce

Typically you will start to see symptoms of hosta poisoning shortly after ingestion. These symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. It can also cause twisting of the intestines. Because she only ate the tip of the hosta plant, she may not have ingested enough to cause toxic symptoms, but I would monitor her for the next 24-48 hours to be safe. If you see any of the signs I mentioned above, please take her into a vet immediately. Otherwise, she should be just fine but I would prevent her from having any access to this plant in the future.
