Why is my dog lethargic? Could new dogs or hot spots be the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 20.08 lbs

Boo has been sleeping all day. We don't know what's wrong with him. I took him to the vet 2 days ago and was diagnosed with hot spots. But besides that he's was ok. He ate today but doesn't want to play like he usually does. My family thinks it's because we have 3 dogs boarding at my house and he's not getting a lot of attention as he's used to and getting depressed. Could thar be it? Change in our routine and having other dogs at home?

I'm sorry Boo isn't acting like his normal self! Introducing new dogs into the home, even temporarily, can be stressful for a dog and that could lead him to be more lethargic than usual. If he's on medication for his hot spots, that could also be a possible cause of his lethargy. It's good that he ate today, and I would continue to monitor him. If he's still acting lethargic on Monday, or develops other signs such as anorexia, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, then I would take him into the vet for a health check.
