My pup is hospitalized for IV. Will he catch diseases from other dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Please help. I left my pup at the vet, he had to receive IV because he was dehydrated (diarrhea, retching, eats but doesn't consume much, blood in stool, low rbc, high wbc, low hemoglobin). They left them there with another pup beside him. I'm scared that he'll catch what that pup has. Sorry, I just need another opinion on this. Will it negatively affect him to be admitted in a clinic that early? Will he survive? Was there any other option other than giving him IV? Are all vet clinics reliable?

With such severe clinical signs and a low blood cont, hospital treatment is the only option. Clinics are used to treating infectious disease cases and all kennels/cages shoul be secre and safe with no leaks between patients and barrier nursing (changing gloves/washing and disinfecting all equipment) between patients to protect each of them from spreading diseases further. He should remain on an iv until he is voluntarily taking enough food/liquids to maintain his own hydration
