My cockatiel is weak, not eating, losing balance, and wings droop.

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

I have a 10 yo male cockatiel that has no strength at all and was losing his balance on the bottom of the cage. He would tip forward but not have the strength to right himself. He isnt eating or drinking any water and his wings are drooping. His feathers are very ruffled and unkempt.

Pretty boy is very sick, but i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, you will need to take him to an avian vet urgently where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease, then it will be possible to treat him accordingly.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These are generally non-specific signs which may or may not represent a problem. If this continues, I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

Rons is beautiful! From what you describe I would be suspicious that he has a respiratory infection. Sneezing and weakness is not normal, and it's not good that he is off his food. It is very easy for a bird to pick up an infectious virus or bacteria in the oetshop because it is a stressful environment with lots if other birds who could have infections. I would keep him in a calm environment away from noise and draught, offer him tasty things to eat. You should take him to a vet preferably avian and have him examined. Birds are very delicate and he may require medication.

He could have gone sick but it's more likely to be due to stress and exhaustion. i would recommend giving him a couple days before taking him to an avian vet specialist, keep him warm at home (warmer than usual) and give him plenty of time to rest. if within 2 days you do not see any improvement- try taking him to an avian vet specialist to get checked.
