My puppy has worms and increased appetite. Can I wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 25 days old | 3.307 lbs

Do worms hurt the puppy in a way that will make them cry? Is it just a myth that worms eat the food that the puppy's supposed to be digesting? I noticed that ever since we saw worms on his stool (1 time) the amount of milk he eats increased. Is it due to the worms or is it normally because he's growing? I wanted to deworm him asap but I haven't weighed him yet. I'm scared that I may give him the wrong amount. Bought the drops(nematocide). Hopefully we can visit the vet tom. Can it wait til then?

Yes your puppy can definitively wait until tomorrow. Gastrointestinal worms generally speaking cause abnormal digestion and absorption of nutrients from intestine and that usually cause increased appetite. Energy requirements may increase for that reason or for fast growing phase. Worming treatments will soon get rid of them all.
