Why is my dog's eye inflamed and watering after dental surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 13 years and 6 months old | 5.5 lbs

My dog just had a lot of teeth extractions last Wednesday, a couple of days post surgery I noticed her eye was inflamed, watering a lot, her eye is squinting and today I noticed a white spot. Is this a result of the dental surgery and what do I do?

It is possible that Poppet's eye issue could be related to dry eyes while under anesthesia, or she may have developed a corneal ulcer/abrasion incidentally. Since eyes are such delicate structures, I would recommend taking Poppet back to her vet for evaluation sooner rather than later. Be sure that she is wearing an e-collar (cone) until you can take her to the vet to prevent Poppet from scratching or rubbing her eye, as this could worsen any existing issue. I hope that she feels better soon!
