Why is my dog licking a red lump on her back leg? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 14 lbs

My dog suddenly displayed this red blister like lump on the top of her back leg today, not sure how she got it but it doesn't appear to be sore, she just keeps licking it. She threw up this morning, but didn't appear to have the lump then, so not sure if that is related to it.

Since Molly is licking this, I suspect it's either itchy or painful. It could be an insect bite, but if it's not improving after 24 hours I would get it checked out. Some skin cancers (mast cell tumors) pop up quickly, and can be quite irritating. Your vet can do a simple test called a fine needle aspirate to diagnose exactly what this is.
