Dog sneezed after being outside, then stopped. Is Benadryl safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

My terrier Chihuahua went outside as usual. He suddenly began repeatedly sneezing one after the other. It continued for about 10-15 mins. I comforted him and washed his face just in case. He's calm now but I'm curious as to if giving him a benadryl is a bad idea? I'm not sure if he ate something or inhaled something through his nose. I don't have any way to the vet at the moment and all the ones I call only care about money. Maybe you can just give me an idea id appreciate it. No sneezes now

It could be that Yoda got into something outside that caused him to sneeze, causing a reaction. Unfortunately, I can't say it's safe for him to have a Benadryl (it's also illegal for me to recommend it) and given that he has stopped sneezing, I wouldn't give him one. Keep an eye on him for now, and if the sneezing does continue each time he goes outside, then I would take him the vet. I will give you a link to find low cost vet clinics in your area. I hope this helps! http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962
