My cat has HCM. Will a new rabbit stress him and worsen his condition?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old

I was just wondering how a cat with hcm would react to a pet rabbit being introduced into the household. They would be kept as swperate as possible but is there any chance this could stress the cat out and affect his hcm? Thank you.

Because a rabbit is a prey species it would be unlikely that having a rabbit in the house would cause him distress, especially if it was in a separate area. He may certainly be interested/curious in the rabbit and in some cases some cats may pose a danger to the rabbits since a cat is a predator and often like to eat smaller animals. That being said, if your cat tends to be a high strung cat who gets anxious with any changes, it is possible any new animal coming into the household could cause him some stress.
