My 4-month-old Great Dane puppy suddenly won't eat. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 4 months and 3 days old | 96 lbs

Bell is a 4mo Great Dane she eats 2x a day always ready to eat but this morning she's not wanting to eat. She usually gets up in the night to go out but slept all night last night. Did go out to this morning and used the bathroom (did both). No vomiting, diarrhea. She had her last "puppy" shots Fri. Any conserns I should have?

It may be that Georgia Bell is just having an off morning or some minor GI upset, especially as puppies are prone to exploring the environment with their mouths. You can try offering her meal again in a few hours, or offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to see if she'll eat that. If she continues to refuse to eat, or does start showing symptoms such as a tender abdomen, hunched body, vomiting/diarrhea, or extreme lethargy, then that could indicate something more serious going on and should be checked by your vet.
