My chihuahua has pale gums & vomiting after rabies shot. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 5.8 lbs

My long hair chihuahua (5.8lbs) got his rabies shot on Thursday, he was in some pain after but gave Benadryl. Day 4 after his belly was very noisy and today, day 5 his gums are pale and he is regurgitating some water and he is acting uncomfortable. He did have a little bit of diarrhea yesterday. He isn't acting super tired. He will walk around, but he would rather be cuddling and clingy.

It is unlikely that the vomiting and diarrhea are related to the rabies vaccination given how long it has been going on. Vomiting and diarrhea can be due to intestinal parasites (worms), gastritis, pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction or even Irritable vowel syndrome. Your veterinarian will be able to examine and test Tyson to determine what is causing this problem and prescribe appropriate treatment.
