Why does my dog jump and bite when I use a fly swatter? How to stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old

My sister was hitting the wall with a fly squatter and my dog was jumping up trying to bite her as she was trying to kill a fly. Can anyone tell me why and how I should have handled the situation?

Many dogs become very excited and over-aroused by quick motions and noises like this - I can tell you that my dogs bark when I do things like this also! :) I would handle the situation by simply removing the dog from the room, if possible. If you can't do this, you could toss a handful of treats on the floor to keep him busy until she's finished.
