Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Boo cat, male about 16 yr old received some antiviral and antibiotics for upper respiratory problem that he had for 4 or 5 weeks. He had 3 doses and has been eating and drinking, but not urinating as usual. Allergic reaction? Should stop meds?

Based on what you have said, it sounds like the medications are working. Urinating less than usual is not a typical allergic reaction. Unless you have noted that Boo hasn't urinated in 18-24 hours I wouldn't really start worrying yet. Also, typically in cases where they aren't urinating due to a blockage, you will see them hovering inside the litter box, straining, crying, trying to urinate. I would say to keep on giving the medication. If you don't see any urine after a full day, start thinking about going back to the vet.
