Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 8 days old | 14 lbs
Found round in my 11week old pitbull. She had worm prevention so I asked someone if two worms meant the worm prevention was working. I was told to keep and eye on her and her poop. Nothing ever happened again, no vomit or worms in poop, but she stated acting lethargic so I took her in immediately. She was diagnosed with round and hookworm and given medication. My question: could the vet tell if my dog had life treating cases of worms if not how can I tell she is recovering after medication?

I don't want to minimize any of your concerns, but the worm burden would have to be INCREDIBLY high in order to have life threatening consequences in a large breed puppy like a Pit bull. As of now, it doesn't even sound like your pup is experiencing any true diarrhea, so the worm burden is likely rather low. I think you are doing the right thing in having her looked at regularly to have fecal samples analyzed, but I wouldn't get too worried about all this. Worms in puppies is an extremely common finding, and is typically resolved after a few treatments with dewormer. Sometimes, a different dewormer must be chosen if the worms continue to thrive, but ultimately this tends to be a very treatable issue. In the event you were seeing a life threatening worm burden, your puppy would be extremely thin, likely having chronic diarrhea, severe dehydration, paleness, and would not be thriving at all. It doesn't sound like this is the case thankfully. Hope everything works out for you and your pup!
