Can a puppy live happily on a glass-enclosed porch in cold climates?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 35 lbs

Hello.I really want to get a dog (puppy), but because of religious reasons I'm not allowed to keep one inside the house. Recently we built a porch (covered by glass from all sides) in our backyard. It is still a piece of the house. It is very cold here at night (in the Netherlands). I was thinking about keeping the dog in the porch to protect him from the cold.We got a big backyard with grass where it can play and i have a lot of time to interact with the dog! Will it be mentally bad for the dog

Wow, what a lovely addition to your home! Yes, it will be fine to keep your dog there to protect him from the cold, it won't be bad for him to live in there. Make sure he has a soft bed to lie down on, and plenty of blankets to keep him warm :-)
