My dog's neck lump grew, turned black and crusty. What could it be?

Hi, A few weeks ago I have noticed that my dog started to develope a small lump on the side of her neck. The doc said it was nothing to worry about however after a few weeks it has grown and has become black and crusty. It has grown a little in size and the doctor suggested to remove it. When the doctor took samples from the effected area, the lump felt like it has become smaller under the skin but the surface remains the same size. Do you perhaps know what it could?

It is possible this could be a cyst. Cysts can decrease in size, especially if the vet used a needle to aspirate fluid from the cyst. They do not, however, usually go away completely and will often fill back up. In some cases, these cysts will rupture and can cause pain or result in infection, so the best course if it seems to be causing problems is to remove it surgically.
