Why is my senior pitbull passing black tarry stool? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 11 years and 11 months old | 50 lbs

My 12 year old pitbull is popping black tar like blood. ALOT of it he still has a appetite still responds to affection. He also has very bag skin allergies, arthritis and hip dysplasia. What can I do for him. I'm scared if I take him to the vet they will suffer to put him down.

First of all, he seems to be suffering from a severe gastrointestinal issue and he must be taken to the vet urgently for treatment, if it';s an infection it's easily treatable, no need to fear about having to put him down. regarding the other issues, these are less urgent at the moment, have the primary problem treated first.
