My budgie's leg is hurt and she can't perch. What can I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

Yesterday I noticed one of my budgies (she's a female, I've only had her around 2 years and am unsure of age but I think she could be between 3-5) was sitting leaning to one side. I got closer and realised she wasn't movihg one of her feet. She doesn't seem in pain but does seem sleepier than usual but is able to get to her food and water but has a bit of trouble perching. Is there anything I can do for her at hone because I think a vet trip would be stressful?

It is possible that Eris may have injured her leg somehow. Without radiographs it is not possible to determine if the leg is broken or not. Either way, she is likely in a significant amount of pain if it is preventing her from eating. Unfortunately there are no medications that you can give her at home to help with the pain and she would need to be seen by a veterinarian. I agree that the trip to the vet may be stressful, but not nearly as stressful as the pain and discomfort from an injured or broken leg.
