My puppy pees inside after neuter. Is it potty regression or UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | neutered | 7 months and 8 days old | 35 lbs

Hello, I recently had my 7 month old puppy neutered 16 days ago and everything looks like it has healed up nicely. my main concern is that he's suddenly had a potty training regression. In the last 6 days he's had at least 1-2 accidents in the house. Twice he has just jumped in the couch and then peed. It is also always pee. He still goes outside to poop without any issues. Is this just a hormonal change or should I be concerned about possible UTIs or anything else?

I wouldn't expect this behavior as a side effect from surgery and would be more concerned about a UTI or other medical problem. Puppies certainly can get urinary tract infections although they are a bit more common in female dogs than males. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian who would likely recommend checking a urine sample. If Finn does not have a medical issue you could discuss what could be causing inappropriate urination and how to get him back on track with potty training.
