Why is my 4-year-old Pomeranian's skin color changing? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 4 years and 3 months old | 6 lbs

Is it normal for a 4 year old Pomeranian to have a change in skin color pigmentation? My vet said it was normal. Is this true?

It can be normal as a dog ages, or the underlying skin is more visible. If the area isn't irritated, red, itchy, or bothersome to Tanner I wouldn't worry. However if you are seeing rapid changes in the area, hair loss, irritation, redness, or swelling these can indicate something else going on such as an infection, parasites or allergic response, which should be checked out by your vet.
