Did my cat suffer? Heart failure, blood clot, and meowing explained.

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8.8 lbs

Hi, I'm sorry if this isn't appropriate to ask considering the circumstances, but my 14 year old cat passed away the other night due to heart failure. The emergency vet suspected a blood clot had formed in one of his arteries and moved to his lungs (I think). My question is, was he in pain? He called out when it begun, and yowled a few times on the way to the vet. I just want know if this was because of pain or distress. Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your cat's passing. Heart failure is very common in older kitties. When the heart isn't pumping efficiently and/or when a clot moves to other areas of the body, the brain doesn't get the oxygen it needs. This causes disorientation and is likely why your cat was meowing loudly on the way to the vet. I doubt he was in any pain. And you did the right thing by taking him to a vet immediately. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
