Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 80 lbs
My buddy is a senior of 13 who has been battling arthritis in his hind legs with Deramaxx, Gabapentin and Tramadol at various points. Recently they aren't doing as much to help him as when he started, and I'd like to try Adequan but am unable to bring him to our vet twice weekly for injections - is there any other form Adequan can be prescribed in besides injections? Or can it be prescribed for me to administer the injections at home? My wife is an RN so she knows her way around syringes.

I have a pit bull myself with very bad arthritis so I know where you are coming from. I routinely prescribe Adequan to clients to inject at home, as they are very simple subcutaneous injections. This is me, not every veterinarian will be comfortable doing this but many are particularly after you tell them you are medical professionals. I would also like to suggest the following with respect to therapies. You may want to try switching to a different NSAID. Sometimes switching makes all the difference after a while. I would also consider adding amantadine to his therapy. I use all three you described plus amantadine for my boy. He is 14 and going strong. You can also try laser therapy, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage as more holistic techniques to help him out. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

I am sorry to hear about Scrappy! You can discuss your situation with your vet and they should be able to teach you how to give the Adequan injections to Scrappy. It can be given subcutaneously, so we do sometimes have owners give it at home. Another thing you may consider would be acupuncture. Some areas of the country have vets who specialize in acupuncture and do house calls. If the Adequan doesn't seem to help, you may ask if your vet knows of anyone in your area who offers these services.
