My bulldog puppy got sick. Will her vomiting & tremors return?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 2 months and 14 days old | 14 lbs

I have a question about my 12 week old English bulldog. Yesterday she got violently ill. She was shaking and vomiting, and even had what looked like tremors. We took her to the emergency place where they did testing and felt that all her tests were normal, and her x rays didn't show anything. They gave her some fluids, and a 24 hour nausea medication. She's been eating normally and playing like her normal self. Are we in the clear, or should I still be as scared as I am that it will come back?

I'm glad to hear that your puppy is feeling better! Depending upon the underlying cause of her vomiting and trembling, there is a chance that she could experience a recurrence of these issues as the anti-nausea medication (I assume Cerenia?) wears off. Some of the more common causes of sudden vomiting are due to a virus, stomach upset from eating different foods or treats, a foreign body intestinal obstruction and parasites. The intestinal obstruction is less likely given her normal x-rays. However, since she is now acting normally, playful and eating well, the odds are good that she is in the clear. Only time will tell, so continue keeping a close eye on her for changes in energy level, further vomiting or other concerns. I hope that all goes well!

Poor girl! I would relax if she is vaccinated for parvovirus, and if they ruled out any potential for a foreign body she may have swallowed, that it was just something she ate that upset her tummy and all is well now. Rest easy-- she is fine if she's eating and drinking and playing normally now!
