Why does my puppy have black lumps and irritation near her genitals?

My puppy has some black lumps that clump near her genital area. It almosts looks like dirt. Also, I have noticed some slight irritation in the area too.

It sounds like Teddy has some irritation around her vulva. Causes of irritation can be skin infections, bladder infection or contact allergies. Definitely keeping the hair soft and the area clean help significantly in the long run. You can wash the area daily with antibacterial soap and rinse well. Many times I will test these pups for a urinary tract infection as well as a yeast infection on the skin. Take Teddy in to have her checked out if it is not improving or getting worse after 1 week or sooner if you just want to have her checked.
