What flea protection would you recommend? I have a shih tzu mixed with a poodle, she is 1 yr old and 4 months

There are so many options for flea control in pets now! The most common include once monthly topical products or oral products. My preference now are the oral products Nexgard and Bravecto. Nexgard lasts one month, Bravecto lasts 3 months. They are effective against fleas and ticks, and you do not have to worry about accidentally touching the product when it is still wet with your pet or bathing your pet too often like you do with the topical products. The oral products are slightly more expensive than the topical methods. If you prefer a topical then Advantage is a less expensive option.

I would actually recommend one of the oral options because those work best. Nexgard or Bravecto are my first choices. My favorite topical (drops) product is Frontline Gold, but the active ingredient in that has been our go-to flea preventative for the last two decades, and we're starting to see some resistance to it. I hope that helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Hi there! For fleas and ticks, the most effective products currently available are Nexgard and Bravecto. These are both beef-flavored soft chews that most dogs like. My dogs are on Bravecto at the moment, which has been working great for them :) You should be able to get these meds from your vet, or order them online with a prescription.

I recommend using Nexgard or Bravecto. These require a prescription to dispense so I would discuss these with your veterinarian so you can get a prescription for these. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further. Please take the time to mark this question as helpful or not as it helps us to improve on the quality of our answers to other pet owners. Thank you kindly!
