My dog has pink pimples. Is it poison ivy or a reaction from sanding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 years old | 6 lbs

My dog has small pink pimples on her belly and arm. We have some poison ivy in the yard. Is it possible for her to contact it? Also we were sanding our deck, it Is possibly a reaction from that? Can I put anything on it until morning when I contact my vet?

Dogs are fairly resistant to poison ivy (though they can carry the oil on their fur and expose their people.) So I think these pimples are likely unrelated to her exposure in your yard. I wouldn't put anything on her skin overnight. If she is licking the area you may want to place her in an e-collar (cone) to prevent her from irritating her skin further. I agree with calling your vet in the morning and making an appointment. They will be able to give you proper shampoo to help and prescribe antibiotics if necessary.
