My Havanese suddenly won't walk on her front paw. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 9 lbs

my 9 pound havanese won't walk on her front right. She is 8 years old. Last Friday she saw the vet and had her 3 year rabies vaccine and a nail trim. She was fine Saturday, yesterday and this morning. While I was walking her she suddenly liffted the paw and then would put any weight on it. I carried her home and examined it for any debris or a burr. Nothing seems to be in it. She allows me to flex her shoulder and knee and touch her toe nails. She's sleeping now.

Hello! Poor Lily! Sounds like you have done a great job trying to sort out what is going on with her leg. When she wakes up, check to see if the problem is resolved. If not (ie, if she is still not bearing weight), book an appointment with her vet, if possible. She may have strained a muscle or ligament, or there could be something lodged in her paw that you aren't able to see. Hope she feels better soon!
