Feral cat has skin scabs & patches. What to do if I can't pick him up?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered

I am feeding 3 feral cats (neutered). One of them has developed some skin problems: patches and scabs. I can get close to him, but I cannot pick him up. Can I send you pictures of him? Thanks, Ann

Hello! Poor Yoda! Looks like as if he may have fleas, and an allergy to the flea bites. Or, possibly mange (skin mites). Can you phone your vet and tell them what is happening? Tell them you aren't able to pick him up. Ask if there is a safe over the counter flea medication that you can try. If not, you may need to catch him and take him in to see the vet. Even if he is feral, they will likely be able to help, just let them know he is not used to being handled. Best of luck with Yoda!
