My puppy has tapeworm. Best safe all-in-one parasite control?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 27 days old | 21 lbs

My puppy is 5 months old, 21 lbs, and she is a boarder collie/ husky/ Australian Shepard mix. I just found tapeworm in her bowl movement yesterday afternoon and she has had two does of Sentinel. I adopted her when she was 9 wks old. What would be the best medicication to put her on to protect her against all worms/fleas/ticks and that is also safe? I am a first time dog owner, any information would be great. Thank you!

The dewormer i usually recommend is called Drontal plus, bear in mind that unlike the flea/tick products, dewormers do not protect your dog from future infestation, it only kills the worms on spot. for fleas and ticks i usually recommend Bravecto tablet or Advantix spot on. all these medications are considered to be high quality and safe.

    Hi there! This looks like a tapeworm segment. It can be difficult to find an over-the-counter dewormer that will get rid of tapeworms - you need a product that contains praziquantel, such as Bayer Quad Dewormer. If you're having trouble finding one at your local pet store, you may need to get a prescription product from your vet. After deworming for tapes, I generally recommend giving a second dose in 14-21 days to ensure that you're treating the entire life cycle of the parasite. Be aware that tapeworms usually come from fleas, so I would also recommend getting your dog on a good quality flea control product if she isn't already on one, to help prevent her from becoming re-infested later on.

    The best tapeworm treatments contain Praziquantel. If the medication contains this active ingredient, then it appears the fleas are not under control. The best flea preventatives are oral products like Simparica and Nexgard. I hope this helps.

Hello. I got a new puppy on the 13th of september(11weeks old at the time) on the 15th i gave her both a flea tablet credelio and over the counter round worm dewormer. on the 16th i gave her milbeguard for heartworm. She then has poop live very small
None of the products you have administered will treat for tapeworms. Tapeworms need to be treated with a special dewormer called Praziquantel. You can give it now. How do you get rid of tapeworms
Hello and thank you for using pet coach. Tapeworms are typically treated with a drug known as praziquantel. The drug that we use at our Clinic to treat tapeworm is called drontal Plus. Puppy weight is 7 kg. She is 2.5month old. She has ticks in her, so Im worried about tapeworm, that's why I'm giving drontal plus tablet with praziquantel to kill tapeworm. How much tablet should I give? Tablet says 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight.
Drontal is a very safe deworming tablet, so I would give Tofy one table. Doses of up to 10 times the recommended dose will usually only cause some nausea, so giving her a little bit extra will not likely result in any harm. I hope this helps!

One of my dogs has taeworms but not sure which so im wondering would it be safe to worm them all or should i wait until i know which one it is and just worm that one ?
Yes, it is safe to deworm all of them. Remember, dogs get tapeworms by eating infected fleas so you need to get the flea issue under control to prevent reinfection. I suggest treating them now and then again in 3 weeks. Dogs get tapeworms from ingesting a flea (usually because they are chewing the skin because of the flea). So there are two steps to treat tapeworms: 1) a dewormer to kill the tapeworm and 2) flea prevention to prevent further infestation. Both of these treatments can be purchased from your veterinarian. Common broad spectrum dewormers include fenbendazole (Panacur) and pyrantel pamoate (Strongid). For tapeworm infection, praziquantel should be used. Always discuss an appropriate dose with your veterinarian before administering.

A pregnant dog can be dewormed with certain medications. Drontal AllWormer (praziquantel, pyrantel, febantel) can be used in pregnant dogs. You should treat her and the environment for fleas since they spread tapeworms. You can use Frontline on her and Frontline Spray on the pups. Treat the environment as well by vacuuming everywhere and washing all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric. Use an area treatment afterwards to prevent reinfestation.

The worms you describe sound like Tapeworms and these come from fleas. These worms are not treated by the product you have been giving him. Instead he needs Praziquantel (Drontal) to successfully treat these worms or a similar product that is labeled for tapeworms. You may be able to find something similar to this at your local pet store, but you vet definitely carries this int he clinic. You should also treat Thor with a monthly flea preventative to avoid re-infection, because pets get tapeworms by ingesting an infected flea.

I can certainly understand being frustrated with this problem! Drontal, in my experience, is a great deworming treatment, and it often takes at least two treatments to kill all the worms. That's because the first treatment kills the adult worms already present, and the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. Preventing worms does require treatment with a deworming medication every three months, and each dog in the house should be treated to prevent reinfection. I would recommend giving all the dogs in your home Drontal, and giving them this treatment every three months. You can also give them Panacur instead of Drontal, it's a good deworming treatment that works well in my experience.
